Security and public safety
Terrorism and deliberate threats
Threat levels can change and are not predictions of a specific event. Check the current official level and know the public action for a weapons or terrorism incident: Run, Hide, Tell.
Last checked: 25 August 2026 How we use official sources
Run, Hide, Tell
- Run if there is a safe route. Leave belongings behind and encourage others without delaying your escape.
- Hide if escape is not possible. Lock or block entry, move away from doors and silence devices.
- Tell police when it is safe. Give the location, direction, description and injuries you know without putting yourself at further risk.
Prepare without increasing fear
- Notice exits and agree a family contact plan at crowded places.
- Teach age-appropriate safety actions without rehearsing graphic scenarios.
- Use MI5 and Counter Terrorism Policing for current official information.
- Report suspicious activity through official channels, but do not profile people by race, faith, nationality or disability.
Dynamic threat information
This site does not display a fixed terrorism threat level because it can change. Use the official MI5 page for the current national and Northern Ireland-related levels and their definitions.
